Four gifts to buy in Paris

Paris is a magical city. From the architecture to the food you will want to remember your time there. Here are some gift ideas to treat yourself or your friends back home.

Longchamp Le Pliage 

Possibly one of the most recognisable bags among female travellers, and for good reason, they’re tear proof, weather proof and foldable. These are great tote bags that come in a variety of colours and sizes. Whether you’re after a sedate large black with long handles (pictured above) or a hot pink small bag with short handles, there is something for everyone. Great as a gift for your sister or mum. Might as well treat yourself too though right?

Ladurée macarons 

If you go to Paris you simply must try a Ladurée macaron… or ten. They’re perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside and come in a variety of flavours. Pistachio is a favourite as is the Marie Antoinette (the blue macaron pictured above). If you’re buying them as a gift be sure to get them in one of the beautiful boxes.

French antiques

There really is nothing like waking up early and wandering around a French flea market in search of a good bargain. Paris is home to a number of antiques markets. The flea market at Porte de Vanves is one of the most highly regarded with over 300 stalls. Be sure to get there early as many stallholders start to pack up around lunch time. From candlestick holders, jewellery and old maps and books you will find the perfect Paris souvenir.

Notre Dame candle

As in many churches, at Notre Dame you can make a monetary contribution to light a candle, and you can also make a donation to purchase some of the candles to take home with you. This is a particularly thoughtful gift for those who may be too sick or frail to travel but who have visited Paris before. Light a candle for them at the Cathedral then purchase one to take home for them.
